What I’ve learned after 12 years of website design

You DIY’d your business website design, but you’re not totally in love with it ?

You did the best you could, and you start to wonder if it REALLY matters in the end. If you have a good offer, isn’t that enough?

After 12 years of website design under my belt, I’ve learned 1 key thing: a strong website and sales page is a non-negotiable. It sucks, but it’s just not enough to have a great offer. You need a website that attracts and converts your ideal person.

After designing countless sites that sell, here’s what I’ve learned.

Ask the right questions

Whether you’re designing your website yourself or you’re getting someone else to do it for you, it’s imperative to ask the right questions. Who is your ideal client? What kind of website design and branding will attract them?

A website visitor will decide within 10 seconds whether they will stay on your site or go someone else. Knowing the answers to these questions is necessary to keep them engaged and going from page to page.

Design in a way that converts

Good design doesn’t just look good. It gets your ideal person to take action. That means it’s set up with strong hierarchy, branding tailored to your ideal person, and a clear call to action. It will draw their eye from one thing to the next, and convince them to buy (without you have to sit on a sales call ??).

Hire someone who teaches you

If you decide to work with someone who will design your website for you, you want someone who will communicate what they’re doing in a way you can understand. They should be able to tell you what they’re designing and why they’re doing it. If they can’t do that, it’s an indicator they might not know why they’re designing the way they are.

I'm Felter

the designer that non-designers love!

Why? Because good design is the difference between your ideal person scrolling past your post or actually taking action.

I used to work the 9-5 grind in the corporate world – like I was “supposed to” – until I blew it all up to do it my own way.

Now, I help non-designers, service providers, and business owners use good design in their branding, website, and content to book more clients and make more sales!
